The first section of the Sezzadio bypass
On 30th April, the first section of the Sezzadio bypass was opened to traffic, a piece of infrastructure made by the firm Riccoboni from Parma as an ancillary work provided as part of the Environmental Authorisation for use of the landfill site in Cascina Boiro.
This project will divert heavy traffic straight to the landfill site, as well as a substantial number of heavy vehicles that currently pass through the town centre of Sezzadio, onto the new road, consequently reducing the traffic and environmental impact for the resident population.

The new arterial road, which will become part of the province’s property, is classified as a type C two-way road, featuring a carriageway with a total width of 9.5 metres.
Special attention has been paid to the environmental and landscape aspects of the work. The road embankments were made by reusing earth from excavations, appropriately stabilised with lime and cement, a solution that helped limit the transit of heavy vehicles required for supplying materials. This new infrastructure is also equipped with a collection and treatment system for rainwater from the carriageway.
Additional environmental mitigation measures involved green landscaping of roundabouts and escarpments, as well as the creation of rows of trees along the service roads, in order to reduce the visual impact of the road embankments and to help the work fit in with the surrounding area.
The section opened to traffic today is about 1,400 metres long and connects roundabout C to roundabout D, from SP 195 near Sezzadio Abbey up to SP 186, along the route between Sezzadio and Cassine.
“This infrastructure, created from an agreement between the Province of Alessandria and the company Riccoboni SpA, is an example of how dialogue between institutions and manufacturing firms can lead to real works for the benefit of the region”, explained the President of the Province, Luigi Benzi. “The first section of the upcoming Sezzadio bypass is not just a compensatory measure linked to the industrial site but rather a strategic investment for the mobility of the entire area which will help reduce traffic in the centre of town and offer greater environmental sustainability”.
“The delivery of the first section of the bypass, as part of the ‘Viabilità extraurbana all’abitato di Sezzadio’ project, was completed by following the highest quality, landscape and environmental standards, in order to ensure it fits in seamlessly with the region”, explained Angelo Riccoboni, the CEO of Riccoboni Holding. “We consider completion of this first phase a major milestone for reducing traffic of heavy vehicles in the town centre. This result is down to our outstanding collaboration with the Province of Alessandria, and we hope to complete the work on time”.
